Get lost!

You might be surprised to hear that this wasn’t actually an insult which was thrown at me today.

And had these words been uttered I would have taken it with the positive meaning of “go adventure”.

Getting lost is not something we should fear nor seek to avoid. For getting lost opens up new horizons, perspectives and opportunities.

This morning I made the conscious decision to get lost.

I was walking in an area which is both fantastic to explore and yet I do not know it as well as some of my more regular spots.

The area in question has a series of gullys and valleys side by side providing steep and fun terrain to adventure in.

The aim was simple and clear… I would walk over with my pack of dogs to the furthest gully I have explored and then cross over two more and zigzag our way Southwards, covering as much of those two gullies and all of their ridges.

We explored on tiny paths that I doubt are used monthly let alone weekly. We had to scramble, we had to turn back, we had to avoid marshes and climb over trees.

Around every corner we found new scenery. Caves and fantastic rock formations splattered across the landscape.

By getting lost and thus finding new areas we open up new frontiers, opportunities and areas for future walks.

And then once we feel that we have covered those new areas, we will just drop one more valley over and go get lost again.
