Return of the mud

After being pretty fortunate with a long dry hot Summer the recent rains had barely left a mark.

The occasional torrential downpour was absorbed by the unbelievably dry ground like a sponge in a matter of minutes.

Slowly however, over the last few weeks, the water table has clearly been rising.

This has culminated in the return of mud in the last few days. It sounds strange to be happy to see the mud back again, but mud and wet marshes are a sign of a thriving ecosystem.

With the return of the mud has also come the return of mud bathing. Some of your dogs are veritable mud hippos…. They spy it and smell it from a good distance and bound happily towards the dark goo.

We of course try and do our best to find clean and flowing water on our way back to the vans, so as they can rinse off and limit the dirt.

Thank you to everyone for leaving out your towels so prominently by your front doors. It makes our lives a lot easier and your homes cleaner.
