Van Keys

As I was driving to my afternoon Adventure today, I suddenly realized that I didn’t have a topic in mind for today’s dog blog.

Sometimes I have a few saved down as future ideas for things which might entertain you all.

After so many years I have stopped worrying too much about finding a last minute topic, as inspiration or circumstance will unfold and present itself.

I was certainly not wrong.

Arriving back post-Dog Adventure at my truck with some happy tired dogs I found, or did not find,…. my van keys.

Not to worry, I probably left them in the ignition.

One quick check later and I realized they had fallen out of my pocket somewhere on the big loop, out there in the woods.

By now some of the dogs were pretty tired. Luckily the back section of my van is never locked and this allowed me to put the tired doggies in the van.

However those who showed signs of remaining energy, were to run with me on the loop we had just walked whilst looking for the keys.

To add to the sense of Adventure (and urgency) I should mention that I only have one key for my Hilux…. and that key was now lying somewhere in the snow, out in the woods. And it was snowing too!

Of course I already had a plan B had we not found it. My colleague would still be walking for another hour or so nearby with another group. Either we could all jump in that van or I could be dropped off at home and get the key for the spare van and drive back again.

Whilst Plan B was quickly formulated so as to hold off stress and panic, I had very little intention of ever needing to use it.

And so off we jogged at a good pace.

To cut a long story short, we found the keys 1.4 kilometres down the trail.

As you will see from the photo, experience over the years has taught me to attach a rather long bright orange lanyard to the most important of keys.

If you are wondering why I did not zip up my pocket with the key in it…… The zips on both trousers and jacket are slightly broken…. This happens when happy dogs jump on you the whole time.

Anyways it made for quite a Monday extra Adventure.
