Does your dog wear a Name Tag with your phone number on it?
And when was the last time you checked their collar to ensure that it had not fallen off?
We always highly recommend to all our customers that their dogs have a Name Tag with their phone number, just in case they head off on solo adventure.
Some people have previously replied that their dog is chipped and therefore it is not a problem.
Let me give you a scenario to best illustrate the use of a cheap name tag.
Your dog sniffs something good whilst you are on a walk with it and explores about 200 metres away from where you are.
A person (and Good Samaritan) walking by spots what they think is a lost dog and, when not finding a phone number decides to create a makeshift lead and takes the dog with them.
The person in question is just far enough away in dense woods to not hear you calling out your dog’s name.
They might ring the Police or to Falck / Viking lost animal services to report the dog, or get it picked up. Or they might put it in their car and drive it to the nearest vet so as to get the microchip read. To this day I have never met a person in the woods who has a microchip reader on them.
All of these actions are unbelievably kind, and yet during all of this, you are searching for your dog and panicking more and more. Maybe several friends and family have now joined in the search.
Eventually, a good while later, you receive a call to tell you that your dog is somewhere downtown in Oslo and you can come and pick it up. You are very relieved.
Now just imagine that whole story again if your dog had a phone number tag.
The Good Samaritan finds your dog, gives you a call and you find out that you are about 200 metres from each other.
2 minutes later you are thanking them and smiling as you get your dog back.
The same applies for us Dog Walkers. We would much rather get your little Explorer safely back within five minutes instead of launching a Missing Dog Hunt.
Dog name tags are really quite cheap, so maybe you would like to treat yourself and your dog to one if you don’t have one yet.
