Saturday just gone was Valentine’s Day. 14th February holds a certain place in every hopeless romantic’s heart.
Yet the Festival of love and it’s figurehead, the cheeky chubby cherub Cupid, can take a back seat. Because here in Oslo on the 14th February something much more magnificent happens each year.
14th February is the first day each year where the sun rises before 8 am and goes down after 5 pm.
It marks the return of daylight in acceptable forms and quantities.
The SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) season is now behind us and we can look to brighter longer days.
Winter is absolutely my favourite season but even I am glad to see the back of the darkness.
Bring on the Vitamin D and being able to get home in daylight hours.
