Influence

Today marks the birthday of one of the most influential people in my life.

Very happy birthday to my mum Martine.

Any avid followers of the Dog Blog will remember my mum from previous Dog Blogs and various social media videos.

Whilst my father gave me my passion, and understanding of dogs, my mother taught me my love of movement and freedom.

Without any of these attributes I don’t think the Dog Adventure company would ever have been launched.

My mother was born in Northern France, but when still a teenager moved to vibrant London, as that was where she wanted to base her life.

This story, alongside continual encouragement and unconditional love to find my purpose, would lead me to Oslo many, many years later.

Both my mom and I can be perfectionists, yet we are working on this and becoming kinder with regards to self-talk when our plans maybe get altered by the inevitability of life.

Whereas I have chosen to dedicate my life and work to dogs, my mother did the same for underprivileged and struggling children. Firstly as a Dance and Physical Education Teacher, and then later retraining to teach Primary School and Nursery School children.

Over the years I have lost count of the amount of times that, whilst out with my mother we have been stopped by a stranger who recognises her and thanks her for having taught them and helped them when they were young.

It would be a disservice to my dad to not mention that he was also a Teacher in tough London schools and the same gratitude from former pupils flows constantly.

Trying to help others is not a choice in my family, it is mandatory.

My parents, like everyone, are by no means perfect, but in all honesty I have yet to meet another parent who I thought had done a better job.

I would actually be proud if when my own children grow up I had been even 70% of the parent which they were. It influences me and inspires me daily.

I could really carry on for quite a while on this topic but I think you get the idea.

A very Happy Birthday once more to my mum…. and the grandkids and I will be giving you a video call shortly.
