Sometimes, and for varying reasons, young dogs are maybe not socialized as much as the owners would have wished.

Covid and the Coronavirus era are a perfect example of this. It has inadvertently led to a lot of dogs who were not optimally socialized, given exposure to safe groups, and many also developed separation anxiety when their owners needed to go back to the office to work.

We often work with dogs (and owners) where the aim is to socialize the dog in safe groups and create a fun, safe environment, so that they understand that other dogs are not scary.

Of course we assess these dogs before they start with us to ensure the safety of other dogs in our groups. I will add that we are unable to take dogs who are aggressive, dominant or reactive.

Once we have established that the under-socialized dog is a metaphorical masterpiece waiting to be painted and unveiled, we start them off in a super easy comfortable group.

These groups normally contain other dogs who are not overly friendly and will just ignore the new dog if they see that it is scared or doesn’t want to play.

The exposure to a friendly pack of dogs becomes evident within but a few walks. Sometimes it is a case of an hour, sometimes it is a case of five walks. Each dog is unique and different. We don’t have a set formula, as we cater to each dog in a bespoke manner.

To witness the transformation first-hand of a dog who is uncertain, fearful or barking at all and any other dogs…. into a dog who will happily walk in the middle of the Pack 20 metres in front of you is unbelievably gratifying.
