Keep it simple. Complexity will only lead to problems, errors and confusion.
I pride myself on being quite “old-school”. I am not trying to over complicate the process of walking dogs, or running a small business, both of which have been done for 1000s of years.
I could be trying to sell you various dog products, services or subscriptions alongside what we do, but frankly I prefer to focus on doing one thing (the dog adventures) REALLY well and thoroughly instead of 10 things haphazardly.
Whilst our central dog planning calendar is of course online, I actually only use it as a back up.
Each morning, whilst I am drinking my first coffee….. Out comes the pen and the Post-it note…. Proper 80 / 90s vibes.
Depending on what mood I am in and what I have available, I pick a neon colour of choice for the day. Today was Yellow!
I then write down the names of my dogs in both my walks in the order in which I would pick them up.
Underneath I might add a few reminders of other things I need to accomplish before returning home.
This Post-it note is transferred daily into the front of my van, slapped on the dashboard, so that I can see it at all times.

And this is the simplicity of planning my work day. If changes come up or things need to be altered I have another pen in my van.
Were the Post-it note to be lost or fall down I can always use my phone as a backup. But only as a backup, and not as the primary way of planning.
I have little to no desire of my phone informing me which is the most efficient, quickest or cheapest route with which to pick up the dogs. The software does not understand the intricacies of how much each dog enjoys the van, or where they will be positioned compared to their walking companions.
The simple Post-it note also allows me to not have to further spend time on the attention-drain which is my phone. It already takes up far too much of my precious time. In contrast the Post-it note notifies me of exactly what I have put on it.
Fittingly it would seem I actually have a Post-it note on my work desk at home, upon which I have simply written “Return to Simple”.
