You would be forgiven for thinking that dog walking consists of driving around, picking up dogs, walking them and then dropping them back home.
Far from it and every day we get some great random things cropping up with which we need to adapt to almost immediately.
After 13 years of doing this daily, you might think that we’ve seen it all. And we have seen and experienced a true variety of situations.
Yet life continues to amaze.
This afternoon during dog drop offs, I was called up by one Walker. He started by saying that this was going to be “a surreal conversation”.
He explained that he was currently sat outside a customer’s house, yet unable to drop off the dog.
The reason was that between his van and the front door there was a swarm of angry bees. Not just a few but well in excess of over 1000 bees, angrily buzzing.
It would seem that the workers, who have been renovating the house, had disturbed a beehive somewhere nearby. Those bees were now rather irritated.
We tried to call the dog’s owner, but they didn’t pick up.
Luckily at this moment the owner’s mother turned up and we warned her not to approach the house. She could instantly see why.
She then called her son, who was actually inside the house doing home office, but had not realized what had happened.
Walker, dog and mother were all ushered around to a side entrance to avoid being stung.
Having apparently never been stung by a bee, the Walker didn’t fancy finding out if he was allergic or not today!
Catching up by phone post drop off, we laughed at quite how random our working lives can bee 🐝
